John was also a keen football supporter. He attended Mansfield Town matches in the eighties with Chris and Sue, and the whole family went to the Freight Rover Trophy final in 1987. He also went to various Nottingham Forest matches including the 1978 and 1979 league cup finals.

John was a season ticket holder at Forest every season from 1994 until his death. He attended many notable matches including a 5-2 win against Derby at home, an away trip to Bayern Munich in the UEFA cup, and a cup game against Tottenham that got snowed off after 10 minutes 

During his time as a season ticket holder he spent time in every one of the stands except for the Bridgford End. He even spent a few seasons in the infamous A block (although I think this was more by accident than by design!)
